Stand Firm
My friend Jason Cruise wrote a great post the other day about sharing our faith with other people and it reminded as to why I started writing this blog in the first place (click here for more info on that).
I work in a Christian environment now.
We pray before meetings.
We talk about our struggles.
We publish and sell products that encourage others in their faith.
And even though I have some of the same struggles that you face in your job when it comes to “people stuff” (like back stabs, people talking behind your back, folks not taking responsibility for their actions, etc) when I worked in an industry that was NOT a Christian environment it was a struggle for me to keep my faith at the forefront. (Don’t be fooled though, it is still a struggle even though I work with other “Christians” – but I will save that for another post) To be seen praying or reading my bible at work would surely have put me into the “wacko” category by my co-workers when I worked at a secular company.
I always thought about how I was supposed to let folks know where I stand yet still be able to work with them every day and them not avoid me on purpose because I was one of those God wackos.
All of us are ready to talk about how we got to the solution of a problem when asked.
Or a recap of our kids recent soccer game, how dance class is going for our daughter or what we had for dinner last night.
But as a Real Christian Businessman, we should be prepared to talk about why we act the way we act and believe the way we believe.
“…Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,” I Peter 3:15b NIV
I encourage you today to be yourself.
When the opportunity comes up just remind people why you have the joy that you do.
That’s it.
It’s that easy.
Don’t let anyone tell you it’s hard.
God’s got your back.
“…Do not worry about how to respond or what to say. In that hour you will be given what to say.” Matt 10:19b (NIV)
