Collaborate

Last week reminded me of something every Real Christian Businessman has to face: you can’t do everything alone.

I had two closings that required more hands to be involved than normal. One depended on an appraiser who had to be quick and efficient. The other relied on the closing agents/title company to expedite documents. That meant two days of back-and-forth, constant phone calls, and me asking as nicely as I could for everyone to move a little faster.

Meanwhile, both agents and the buyer were pinging me every fifteen minutes for updates, reminding me (like I already didn’t know?) how urgent it all was. Their barrage of texts didn’t help, but we got everything done on time!  And it only happened because people—inside and outside my circle—were willing to work together.

That’s collaboration.

And sometimes, that’s what it takes.

Have you ever been in that position? Where the completion of your job depended on someone else?

When they came through quickly, it felt like a blessing. But when they dragged their feet, it slowed everything down and tested your patience.

I was fortunate this time. Everyone had their eyes on the same end goal: helping a family get into their home. And because of that, we got it done, with only a few bumps along the way.

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” ps 133:1 (NIV)

As a Real Christian Businessman, that’s our standard. So let’s remember when we are a part of a process that helps someone else, to do our part in a timely, cheerful manner.

It makes all the difference.

It sets a precedent.

And it honors the Lord.

RCBiz challenge:
This week, look for one opportunity to collaborate with someone else in a way that makes their job easier.
