Drop Off
We dropped my daughter off at college this week. Leading up to this moment I’ve been a mess. Wondering if as parents we taught her enough, how much I will miss her joy and laughter and funniness and hugs and does she have enough insight to make the right choices regarding friends and boys and will she be able to wake up on time and get to class, etc. etc. etc.
Move in time didn’t go too well though.
Usually, my daughter and my wife and I work really well together. We have suggestions as to where something might go, how to lift a box, what to do first, what to do next, etc.
But we didn’t work like that this time.
No one was respecting each others ideas.
We all were working as 3 independent people.
And it took us forever to get it all done.
The 3 of us all were stressed and anxious about her going to college in our own way and not one of us realized it. It took us twice as long as it usually would have taken us to move her in because we didn’t recognize the stress and emotion each of us was carrying.
A Real Christian Businessman knows that when we are collaborating and working together on a project with someone at work we all have our own “baggage” we are bringing to the table. Yet we have to be the ones to overcome all of this and go into it with a sense of awareness. Others may have some things, emotions, and stress going on in their life that may cause them to not be at their best during a time we are supposed to be working together.
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ”. Gal 6:2 (NIV)
We eventually got it done and her room looks great – she is all set for the upcoming school year and as prepared as she is going to be when it comes to her being in school.
So when you are working with others on a project this week and someone is acting a little out of the norm, stop and think that maybe something is going on in their lives that is causing them to be a little on edge.
Maybe they too will be moving their daughter to college this week. 🙂
