Busy Attitude

Our region has been pretty busy as of late. This is a good thing of course, but with that increased business it can have some drawbacks.

Most Loan Officers in our region share a Loan Officer Assistant. This LOA helps take the loan from being under contract to putting it into the system and all the things that go along with that (ordering the appraisal, ordering title work etc).  Since most Loan Officers have been busier than usual, the LOAs have been busier too.  Normally this would be fine, but we lost one of our LOAs about 6 weeks ago and they have yet to be replaced with no sign of anyone being hired soon.

And everyone remains busy.

My normal reaction to this situation would be to talk to my colleagues and complain about how things have gotten bogged down.   Grumble about how it is taking much longer to get our loans advanced.  Call up my management and VPs and criticize how things are taking forever to get done and we need some relief.

That is how I usually react.

This time though I have been keeping my mouth closed (wow!).  I have tried to be empathetic to my LOA. I have been encouraging her as she feels very overwhelmed right now.  I have been politely inquiring with management as to when they might be hiring additional help to give us all some relief.

Quite the opposite as to how I normally react.

I learned the hard way (more times than I would like!) that to be cranky and complain and pitch a fit about a situation like this doesn’t yield any different results than being respectful and empathic and kind and approaching it in a civilized way.

I have changed somewhat over the years!

So if you are going through something similar at work right now, use your Real Christian Businessman skills and be empathetic to what is going on while you seek out a solution.

We have enough complaining going on right now in the world.
