Threatened
We had two new Loan Officers join our local branch office last week. Both come from a strong banking/mortgage background and have been in the business 20+ years. During our first weekly sales meeting we were introduced to them and got a chance to get to know them personally.
They have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the mortgage industry. Listening to them talk and hearing their different questions and answers made it clear these two individuals are sharp when it comes to originating loans and knowing the mortgage business.
At first I started to get a little jealous and envious of these two. I mean, they obviously were better loan officers than me, right? They have much more experience than I do and have closed many more loans than I have.
I briefly started thinking: Are they going to take business away from me? Will I close less loans because of their presence since they know more people and know how to generate business better than I do?
Of course not!
Those envious thoughts thankfully didn’t last long. I quickly introduced myself and offered to help them integrate into our company/systems. I started asking questions that would make me a better loan officer and tried to look at things they are doing that I may be able to learn from and implement myself to help my business to grow.
Feeling threatened when new people enter our vocation is not unusual. How we handle these thoughts is what can make the biggest difference in our lives, our business and our influence at work.
Let’s use these opportunities to show how a Real Christian Businessman usually acts. The world has enough envy and jealously perpetuating as it is.
