Christmas Party

I’ve been to my share of office Christmas parties over the years.  From the basic get together during lunchtime in the break room all the way to the large extravagant “throw down” complete with my managers breaking out their instruments and putting on a full fledged, real deal concert (remember those days LC and DB?).

How people act at office Christmas parties though is something all together different.

For those that know me personally I have never gotten drunk or even had a drink at any of these parties. One of the main reasons being I have always been the designated driver and am responsible for getting everyone home safely.

But many of my co-workers and their guests have gotten way over intoxicated and have acted completely inappropriate too many times to recount.   Once people start to drink and the alcohol sets in, it is amazing what can happen at these events that ends up being things that serve as big regrets later.

I’ve seen folks passed out, yell, throw up on other guests, say things that should never have been said (think offensive and sexually inappropriate comments at the highest level) and just plain “act a fool”.

This has lead to numerous apologies afterwards, reprimands, reassignments, HR training, and I have even seen some folks get fired based on their actions at the workplace Christmas party.

All this to say, a Real Christian Businessman knows how he should act when attending these events.  Drinking alcohol, dancing, and having fun are all allowed and encouraged, but over doing any of these things is not the appropriate action to take.

“Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks.” Is 5:22 (NIV)

So be cautious this year during the holiday work party.  Think about times in the past when we have acted or have seen people act completely out of line. Let’s be a good example this year so folks aren’t talking about our inappropriate actions the next day!
