Out of Control

Business has still been up and down for me lately.  Interest rates have remained high, chasing away many potential families from house shopping.   Home inventory remains low, and those that do shop are many times competing with multiple offers on homes they are interested in.

It’s just a crazy time in my industry right now.

The consolation is that when I talk to veteran loan officers and real estate agents they tell me the current climate our industry is experiencing is not unusual. Rates go up and down, home purchasers increase and decrease, inventory increases and decreases.  I even did some data research on what they have said and it all lines up exactly how they have described over these past 40 years.

How do I react to all of this as it relates to my business and me?

The tendency is to blame external factors on my business being down.  It’s the rates, its people’s fear that now is not a good time to buy, it’s not enough homes on the market, etc.

Those are all factors beyond my control.  There are still loan officers out there closing loans in the same market I’m in and with the same rates that I have available to me.  They are making it happen and being successful.

Yet its way too easy to just sit around and complain about it all.

A Real Christian Businessman knows that in order to succeed in any business we have to 1st pray for God’s guidance AND THEN work on the things that we can control.  I can’t control what the interest rate is, nor can I control how much inventory there is for potential buyers that are looking for homes.

I CAN control how I interact with the real estate agents and families that are looking for a home.

I CAN provide excellent advice and knowledge about loan programs and how to structure their loan to fit their families’ needs.

I CAN treat my referral partners like they are my top customers and instead of asking them to “send me clients” ask them what I can do to help them increase their business.

Yes business is tough for me right now but I am sticking it out. I know if I work smarter and maximize the time I have I will ultimately be successful at what I do.

It’s time to pray up and get to work!

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)”
