Big Meetings

Our company recently had a one-day meeting where we brought almost everyone from our region into Nashville.

It was inspiring!  We had our president, EVP, VP of products and a fellow top loan officer who spoke and offered compelling motivation and much needed perspective on what is going on in our company and industry.

I’ve attended these types of meetings my entire career.  They are usually great!  I love hearing from executives on where we are headed and I also love getting a chance to interact with my peers from different parts of the region.

How do you act when you are in these types of meetings?

Do you make sure you get to talk one on one with the President and EVP?

Do you make it a point to always ask questions during the sessions so you are heard and noticed in the meeting?

What is your behavior like when the group goes out for a “night on the town”?

I have made my share of mistakes in the past when it comes to how I act at meetings like this.  My tendency has usually been to ask too many questions and it ends up looking like I’m trying to be smarter about something than I actually am.

A Real Christian Businessman knows that meetings like this are just another opportunity to have our faith on display!

This doesn’t mean reciting Bible verses during lunchtime to your tablemates or making sure and inviting all the out of town folks to your church.  What it does mean is acting respectful, being humble, and having a caring and kind attitude towards others that you meet and interact with.  This sounds simple doesn’t it? But sometimes our pride gets in the way of how we need to act.

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” Prov 11:2 (NIV)

Let this simple post be a reminder for the next big meeting we have to attend.

Our humility will speak louder than any other words or actions!
