On Vacation

Last week I was in the middle of working on a loan that I am trying to get closed.  This particular loan involves lots of details and is somewhat complex, so my processor and I have been in constant communication about it. Towards the end of the week, there was some critical information that came in that we needed to react to.  I reached out to her to discuss the details about what I had just found out – and she didn’t get back to me!  I thought this to be rather unusual as she is normally very responsive, especially as it related to this file.

Then I remembered she was taking a couple of days off to spend with her mom that was in town!

Once I realized this I immediately sent her another message to let her know I had forgotten about her taking time off and that we could review this when she got back in a couple of days.

Have you ever called someone when you KNEW they were on vacation because you needed something? (yikes – I have!)

How does it feel when people call you when you are trying to take some time off?

A Real Christian Businessman knows better than to contact someone while they are on vacation.  Even in today’s day and age of always on/24 hours, where we sleep with our cell phones by our head, it makes it “feel” like its ok for us to reach out to someone when they are taking time off.   But respecting their time away is the better thing for us to do as not that many people are willing to operate this way anymore.

“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you…” Matt 7:12a (NIV)

The next time you think you need something from someone that is on vacation please remember the time someone contacted you and how you felt about it.  Let’s be different in today’s world and allow folks a little bit of peace… and wait until they get back to from vacation before reaching out.

Wouldn’t we appreciate it if folks did that for us?
