Easy. Or Hard?
In my previous job I was constantly in meetings. As this was a salaried sales position we were in meeting after meeting after meeting. We were constantly giving updates, talking about future products, solving customer problems, or rehashing these same topics over and over again.
In my current role as a 100% commissioned sales person there really isn’t much reason to have many corporate meetings. My company doesn’t want to bog us down with a lot of nonsense and time wasting. They choose otherwise to have select meetings to motivate, inform and train us so that we spend the bulk of our time out with clients and partners that can expand upon the business that we do.
Because I no longer have that many meetings, the ones that I DO have I have started to look at differently.
Is this adding value to my business?
Does it motivate me to do a better job?
Am I learning anything from others in the meeting?
How am I contributing to the meeting?
A Real Christian businessman knows that meetings are going to happen regardless of what type of organization we are in. It’s how we APPROACH each meeting that determines the attitude and outcome for us.
It’s EASY to bad mouth the meeting as we are walking out or later in the day at the water cooler.
It’s HARD to not say anything at all.
It’s EASY to have an attitude and appear aloof during a meeting.
It’s HARD to try and find something of value that is being said.
I haven’t always taken the “HARD” approach when it comes to my recent meetings.
How about you?
Regardless of how we have approached meetings in the past, let’s resolve today to choose the better path for our upcoming meetings this week.
“Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Eph 5:16-17 (ESV)
