In Person Meetings

I work remotely most of the time.  I do have face-to-face meetings regularly across the city with different business partners and families but most of the time I work from home.

Last week we had a sales meeting at our office that brought most of the local/remote folks to our office.  This doesn’t happen but about once a quarter and our leadership paired it with a cook out / Halloween costume contest. It ended up being very well attended and lots of fun too!

I realized after our meeting that getting together with others from time to time in this type of setting can be very beneficial as being isolated in my off site workplace can sometimes get lonely and bring me down.

God created A Real Christian Businessman to be in community with others and He made this clear by his actions and teachings in the Bible.  It is easy to forget community in today’s work environment with “work from anywhere” and “remote work” being available and acceptable to most.

I am not advocating for us to all work in the office 100% of the time nor to be 100% work from home employees, I am only making the observation from my experiences in doing both that having regular interaction with others instead of staying “hold up” in our little bedroom home office is actually good for us and good for those that we interact with.

I mean, how can we be a Real Christian Businessman if we don’t ever see anyone in person?  Sure Zoom and Team meetings are chances to do that, but remember we all can make a Christian Businesslike impression much more effectively on others just by being “present.”

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,  not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another…” Heb 10:24-25a (NIV)

If you are a mostly work from home employee like me let’s look for some opportunities to interact with others in person this week. Who knows what type of impression it might make not only on us but others as well.
