Redo

I messed up a loan file this week and had to do the whole thing over. This may not sound like a big deal but it takes a whole lot of time to get everything set up correctly and ready to submit into the system so this was a huge time waster in my day to have to do this twice.

I could easily have blamed someone else for my error.  I had checked with my manager before proceeding and based on what I told her she thought I would be fine to proceed as planned.   The production assistant who reviews things before I advance a loan also raised a question about the file but I brushed it off.

So I have two people I could blame and say it was their fault and get all upset with them about having to do the work all over again.

But I didn’t.

You see I didn’t give my manager all the information about the file when I checked with her.  If I had done that, she would have known to advise me to start over on the file right then and it would have saved me so much time.

I also didn’t heed the warning of the production assistant but instead decided that everything was fine and moved forward anyway.

A Real Christian Businessman owns up to his mistakes.  I was responsible for this file and because I was in such a rush to move it forward I didn’t heed the warning signs or ask for the right help to prevent me from having to do it twice!

I’m not upset about what happened, I’m just going to use this as a learning experience to ask better questions next time and heed the warnings of my teammates better so that my time can be used in a much more efficient manner.

How would you react if this happened to you?

Would you blame someone else for a mistake like this or take responsibility for your own actions?
