It Snowed

I grew up in the South, but lived in Michigan for 12 years.  I never grew accustomed to the weather, especially the frigid temperatures.  One thing I did learn living there though was that once the first snow comes down, the snow never leaves the ground for at least 6 months (eek!).

Fast forward to now, where I live back in the South in the metro Nashville area and whenever it snows it doesn’t stay long!  We had our annual snowstorm this past week and it dropped over 6 inches in our area.  It shut down schools, shut down roads and forced everyone to basically stay inside for 48 hours.

And it made my ability to work from home a little difficult…

My two teenagers had numerous friends that were constantly in and out of the house. They frequently went snow sledding, played board games, had friends spend the night and stayed up late watching movies and playing video games.  My wife and I also had opportunities to hang out and play board games with them plus we ended up feeding everyone at numerous hours of the day.

Usually I have a bad attitude and get all grumpy when all this happens because I can’t get my “work “done. Too many disruptions!

But this time was different!

I took frequent breaks to hang out.

I played a board game or two.

I gladly helped prepare breakfast or lunch.

My attitude was great (most of the time!).

How about you? How do you react when a snow storm disrupts your work week or something happens at work that turns your productivity upside down?  As a Real Christian Businessman we have to look at things like this snowstorm as rare opportunities to show others God’s love through our attitude and actions.  I did better than usual this time but have not done that well in the past when it comes to disruptions.  Showing an attitude of grace and love to others when disruptions happen is the charge we all have at hand.

“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35 (ESV)

Treat disruptions this week like the opportunities they are – to show God’s love to those we may encounter! We will all be better for it if we do!
