I Can Do it Myself

As a mortgage loan officer, even though I work for a company, I am basically an independent businessperson running my own business while my company provides the needed support (people, systems, technology, etc.).  It is my job to get new business, it is my job to make sure loans close so families can move into their home, and it is my job to deal with any highs or lows that may come up during the loan process.

Sure, ultimately it is my responsibility to make sure everything goes well, but without the support of others in my organization I would not be successful at all.

I have numerous people that help me succeed at what I do.  My production assistant, my processor, the production manager, the  processor manager, the regional manager – they all have helped me close loans or ensure loans are “figured out” so that I can be successful.

Stop and think – Is there anyone at your workplace that helps to ensure you are successful at what you do? Have you thought about those folks’ contribution to your success and how it impacts your income/business?

A Real Christian Businessman recognizes those that support his success are critical to doing business.  We regularly give thanks to them and let them know how integral they are to the success of our business.

And I’m not talking about saying “thanks for you help” just so you can check the box that you “said thanks” in a patronizing way.  I’m talking about giving genuine appreciate for something specific someone has done that helps you do your job.

Take a moment this week, and think about those that contribute to your success at work.

Give them a shout out in person or via email.

Be specific.

Show appreciation.

Hold them in high regard.

Be a Real Christian Businessman.

“Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.” 1 Thes 5:12-13 (NIV)
