They Got It Wrong

As I was working on a loan file for a customer last week, I got stuck on how to set something up in our system properly as it related to the file.  So, I checked with one of my peers on it to see how they usually would get past the part I got stuck on.

The only problem is – they told me the wrong way to do it – And it took me forever to figure that out.

By the time I had figured out what they had told me was incorrect, I had spent about 1.5 hours on it!  I finally ended up checking with a manager on it and they helped me figure out what was wrong and got things things moving forward for me again.

I was so frustrated that my colleague had given me the wrong information causing me to waste so much time!

My first reaction was to go right back to them and let them know how badly they messed things up for me and how much time I wasted on their misinformation and mistake.

But I didn’t.

Instead, I calmly sent them a message thanking them again for their help but politely correcting the information they had given me so that they would not give others this misinformation and cause them the same type of delays and frustration.  They replied how sorry they were that they gave me incorrect information and were so thankful and appreciative for letting them know what the correct info was!

A Real Christian Businessman takes things in stride when someone gives them wrong information that ends up causing them to spend way more time on a work task than they ever expected to.  We extend grace to those that have done us wrong – whether they realize they did so or not.

So the next time someone gives you bad information as it relates to your job and the task you are working on ends up taking way more time than expected to complete, keep a good attitude about it all and extend to them a little grace.

We all could use a break every now and then, especially when we don’t even realize we need one!

“See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble…” Heb 12:15a (ESV)
