Our Approach

This week I had one of those all day meetings I had to attend.  It was actually my first time attending a continuing education class that I am required to complete every year in order to keep my mortgage license current.

I was NOT looking forward to sitting in a room for 8+ hours listening to someone talk about mortgage info, especially when I figured I already knew most of this material already – why did I need to be in here?

I had better things to be doing with my day.  Like working on loan files, following up with clients, meeting with real estate agents – you know, work stuff.

So I came into this meeting with the wrong attitude.

Immediately when I entered the room my manager cheerfully invited me to sit next to him. As we were chatting about the day and what to expect he casually mentioned that even though this is a required class, in the 18+ years he has been a loan officer he has always learned something new that helps him to do his job better.

Get that – he always learns something new, and he has been doing this 18+ years!

A Real Christian Businessman knows that when doing things we don’t always want to do it starts with our attitude.  An attitude like the one I had when I walked into this meeting is the normal attitude that most people take.  The attitude of anticipation and expectation like my manager displayed is the one that God wants us to represent.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” Coll 3:23 (ESV)

The meeting turned out to be great! The instructor was very interactive and made everything as fun as she could so that our attention didn’t wane and we could learn from the material presented.

And guess what – I learned some stuff that will help me do my job better going forward!

So the next time you have a meeting like I had coming up, enter it with the humble attitude of one that is ready to learn.

It makes a difference!
