Work at the Beach?

We just got back from a couple of days vacation at the beach.  Some friends of ours invited us to stay with them at their resort in Destin FL and we had such a great time!  The resort we stayed at was on the water but didn’t have direct beach access… BUT they provided a shuttle boat that ran every 20 minutes that took us to their private designated beach area with towels, chairs and umbrellas already set up!

As we boarded the boat for our first trip over to the beach area we could tell the attitude of the workers was a little chipy that day. They were obviously understaffed and were very clear to let us know about it.  They mentioned they worked for tips but their approach to try and garner tips was more along the lines of “poor us” and “some people didn’t show up for work today and we have to do everything”… complaining and lamenting about it all as opposed to trying to out-serve us with the few workers that were there.

The next day though the attitude of the crew was much different.  We had all new workers and even though they may not have been as short handed as the crew the day prior they were all very positive, happy and looked like they were enjoying themselves and the job they had to do that day.

Watching these folks work got me thinking about what my attitude has been like at work lately.  Even though I haven’t been able to close too many loans as of late (lots of people getting preapproved/shopping but not as many houses for them to buy) I still have been keeping a pretty good attitude as I really enjoy helping people with their home mortgage needs (p.s. I can assist with home mortgages in any state so if you or any of your family/friends need help please put them in contact with me! LOL).

What has your attitude been like about work lately? Have you been looking at the job that you have as a curse and find yourself complaining all the time or do you try and find the good things you have been afforded as it relates to your vocation and appreciate those?

Do you get to work from anywhere sometimes/all time? Are you able to get off early when needed?  Do you have good health care coverage? Are there any perks at your office (free childcare, lunch provided every Friday, etc.) that you may be overlooking?

A Real Christian Businessman takes the job we are doing and makes sure we do the best we can with what we have been given.  Remember other people are watching and listening to us! They look and see what our attitude is towards our work and it directly represents God’s kingdom because as believers we are always representing Him in all that we do.

Take a step back and assess all the GOOD things as it relates to your job this week.  Talk about those with your fellow workers,  friends and family.  Let’s all be an inspiration about our work this week and let people know whom we actually are working for and what He has provided for us.

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Coll 3:17 ESV
