Believers?
It’s not always obvious that there are others you work with are believers, but if just look around you can usually find someone else who believes.
When I first started working in the secular music industry several years ago in Atlanta, LC and Linda were believers in my office. When I moved to Dallas TX my man TJ was right there. In Detroit, Craig and Vince come to mind as others who followed Christ in the workplace. These were just a few of the others who believed in Christ yet who didn’t bible thump others in the workplace. We didn’t break out into Kumbaya or pray in the breakroom for 45 minutes every day, but we all knew where our hope and belief was anchored.
When I started working in the mortgage industry back in October, I actually found several others that I worked with who were also believers. Again, I didn’t put a signature on my email that said “I’m a Christian come talk to me”, but through interactions, watching how they did business and conducted themselves I have found at least three other brothers and sisters in Christ. They not only have helped me with my job but have provided encouragement and solidified the context for why I do what I do and who I am ultimately working for.
Do you have others that you work with who are believers? If you look hard enough I bet you can find at least one. A Real Christian Businessman will find them… and encourage his brothers and sisters in Christ that he works with! We all need daily encouragement regarding our beliefs as the world around us is harsh and brutal in how it operates. But having another believer in the workplace you are in is not a coincidence, as the Creator of all who knows what we need places people and circumstances in our path to help sustain us through whatever it is we are going through.
Look around you this week and find another believer at your workplace or seek out the ones you already know. Be subtle but give them some type of encouragement regarding their beliefs in the workplace. Help encourage them to stand tall in what they believe and let them know God loves them and that their example is not going unnoticed.
“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” Heb 3:13 (NIV)
