School’s Out

School is finally out for our kids.  I have one that will enter high school next year and one that will be in 11th grade (oh my where did the time go?!?!).  I’ll never forget my good friend Vince told me a long time ago that in the blink of an eye they will grow up and the next thing you know they will be in college!  I of course didn’t quite understand this at the time but each day that passes I understand more just exactly what he meant.

Our summertime household looks a little different this year.  For the past 16 years my wife has always been available and home with our kids during the summertime (up until last year when she went back into the workforce while I was still home hanging with them and looking for a job).  Now we both work full time, and it poses different challenges when it comes to spending time with them during the break.

What are you going to do differently this summer that involves your family?

How will you capitalize on the time that you get to spend with your kids over the next two months if they are still at home?

A Real Christian Businessman realizes that our job and tasks will continue to get done, but that we have to prioritize and be INTENTIONAL when it comes to spending time with our family in the summer.  Co-workers and clients understand when you mention to them you have to leave early because you and your daughter and headed to the rope climbing course this afternoon.  Customers will get it when you respond a little later than normal because you are taking your kids to play putt putt at lunchtime.

Make efforts this summer to spend some time with your kids!  Be an example to your colleagues and show God’s love by loving God first, your spouse second, and then YOUR FAMILY.

We need more family time in the world today as we continue to become so fragmented… and the summer is a great opportunity to do this!
