We had a “team building” experience recently.  We had an event at a local racetrack in Nashville on a Saturday and we were able to bring our families with us.  I have been to many different events in my life but I have never been to an actual Nascar type “race” like this before.

It was fun!  Boy was it loud, but the folks from our office who put it on did a great job of making it fun for everyone that was there.  They made sure the young kids had something to do to keep their interest, there was free food and drink, and we had a chance to mingle and hang out with our co-workers in a non-work setting that was really enjoyable for all.

Now my tendency is to NOT want to go to these types of events.  I mean, this is during my personal time (a Saturday!), so why would I want to spend time with folks that I already have been interacting with the other 5 days of the week? I also tend to bad mouth events like this – picking them apart, not being positive about the venue or time or some small thing here or there.

And that is the easy thing to do.

Be negative about it all and don’t even show up.

Yet a Real Christian Businessman knows that we need to embrace events like this and do it in a way that glorifies God – by showing up, having a big smile on our face and acting like we are glad to be there!   It is easy to foster sarcasm and dissention about these types of happenings.  To stand around and poke holes at what it is, the food, the noise, etc. Yet being positive and appreciative about events like this is more in line with what our actions are to be.

So the next time they organize an event at work don’t blow it off and start bad mouthing it.  Show up and put a smile on your face and go with the flow.  Folks will take notice of your attitude.  And you will be a witness of Christ to others with your actions.
