Pass It On

In my new job as a mortgage consultant, there are numerous things I still don’t know how to do.  Fortunately for me, when I am stuck, there are resources within our organization readily available to help me.  We have on our company-wide training site with numerous job aids that explain in detail how to navigate certain situations. If I can’t find the answer there, I have several in house mentors that are just a phone call away.  My fellow loan officers and loan officer assistants within my region have been more than accommodating to me when I reach out to them with questions and problems.  And finally there are a group of corporate trainers that are ready at the drop of an email to respond to my questions or provide clarification about a home loan I am working on.

This type of support is amazing!  Coming from an entirely different industry with only my people skills, analytical mind and a willingness to learn, it is very comforting to know that when I get stuck I can usually get help fairly quickly.

Everyone I have encountered within my organization has been willing to stop what they are doing and help me get past the point I am stuck at and move me forward.

How helpful are you at work with your colleagues?

When you see someone struggling with something do you reach out to them and offer your advice or assistance or put your head down and get back to finishing that report?

When you see a co-worker having a hard time figuring something out do you offer to help them or turn the other way?

What an opportunity for a Real Christian Businessman to show Christ’s love!  By offering to help your co-worker get through something they are working on without a mention of Jesus or “The Bible” we are inherently showing God’s love by our actions!  Sure, many could say being helpful is just a good human trait, but if you are a believer in Christ it is in our DNA as to how we are to act.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” John 13:34 (ESV)

How many times did we see Jesus offer help to others with advice or encouragement?   I have often thought about Jesus’s “occupation” as a carpenter and even though there is no mention of him giving any building advice do you think it might have ever come up that he used his trade as a gateway to having a conversation with others?

Let’s take a moment this week to utilize the opportunities that are right in front of us to help others with what they are doing… and in doing so to show God’s love.

It’s just what we are supposed to do!
