Not Yet

How has work been going for you lately?

Have you been working more than ever since some people on your team may have been furloughed?

Did you get furloughed and now you are back at work?

Did you lose your job completely during this time and are now having to look for a new one?

Or better yet, have you had to adapt to the new normal of working from home all the time, when you didn’t ever plan on working from home at all (and your house still isn’t really set up for you to work from home)?

For me, I have not found a new full time job yet. As many of you know I have been unemployed since last year.  God has revealed much to me during this time of being unemployed.  I continue to remain steadfast in my search and seek his guidance daily as to what my next assignment will be.  I am fortunate I have been able to pick up some part time work to still be able to contribute to our family’s needs.

It takes a little different perspective as a Real Christian Businessman to be able to work under these current pandemic conditions though.  When one of my part time jobs requires me to work from home on a project for example, I have to now consider my wife’s job that she is doing from home along with what my kids are doing for the day in order to get it done.  When I used to “go into the office” to do my work I could go somewhere if need be to concentrate and get the project done uninterrupted.  But not when I do that from home!  There are many more distractions and interruptions than I have ever imagined, testing my patience and focus while I try and complete my work.

This is why I need to use patience and understanding now more than ever before, not only with my family but also with the people I may be working with.

If my work situation is like it is trying to work from home, what is my co-worker or client’s situation like?  They may be a single parent trying to make sure their child is occupied all day while they are trying to work and also interacting with me. If they have gone back into their office to work, they have all kinds of new rules and stipulations that they have to deal with now just to get their job done.

Let’s remember this week while we are working that others have to deal with many of the same things that we do, and we need to extend a little grace when it comes to our expectations and needs of them!

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Col 3:12 (NIV)
