Be Kind

Our K-8 school system has had a simple mantra the last several years that basically says to Be Kind.

It is plastered on all of the walls in all of the schools; it is talked about by school counselors and by the teachers and administrators all throughout the year.

This is done as a concerted effort to influence the students that being kind to each other make everyone’s lives better whether you agree with them or not.

Personally, I have been putting my “be kind” hat on every time I go to a store or to get fuel for our car or do any type of part time work I may be currently involved in.

But I haven’t been seeing much kindness from others when I am out in a public area or doing any type of work.

It seems many folks have a chip on their shoulder. They don’t want to wear a mask (which is a personal choice, I’m not here to convince you to wear one or not, but when I’m in an enclosed place I personally do).  They don’t want to wait in line 6 feet apart at the grocery store because they have somewhere to be so they cut in front of me instead.  They don’t want to listen to their local governments when it comes to how to react to the current pandemic. They want to be short with me on the phone or via email when I am working (part-time).

A Real Christian Businessman takes the “be kind” mantra to heart. Sure it is harder some days than others… when people cut in front of you or make fun of you for wearing a mask (or not) or are rude to you on a Zoom meeting, but we have to take the lead on being kind to others so that we are an example out in the world.

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” Eph 4:32 (ESV)

There are plenty of examples of folks NOT being kind, so let’s all use this verse as a reminder how we should act towards others this week.

Be kind!
