Busy Busy Busy

Even unemployed people can be busy. 🙂

I have been busy this past week, substitute teaching several times, delivering groceries for Instacart, looking for a job (always!), and continuing to do things around the house to help keep our family going.

How I act when I am busy is something I often think about.  For me, I currently don’t have a full time job that can provide the necessary income to support our family so I am doing other jobs to try and fill the gap.  These jobs still don’t provide enough money for what is currently needed – and I sometimes think of this as a downer, that I am better than this.   Why should I be doing these jobs when I could be making so much more money doing something else?

Even though I still feel this way sometimes, I overcome this it by welcoming the opportunity to show God’s love to the little one’s at school.  I smile and speak kindly to others in the grocery store and their houses when I am shopping or delivering their groceries.  I look at each opportunity as work that allows me to show God’s love, even if it isn’t what I really want to be doing right now. I know that eventually I will have a full time job doing something that I enjoy, and that this season of being on the bench is only temporary.

How do you act when you are so busy?  Do you represent God well when you have a lot going on, making sure to recognize that work is something that is honoring to Him when we do it?  Or do you run around and talk about how busy you are, how tired it makes you, and make sure people know you are spinning multiple plates?

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Col 3:17 (NIV)

A Real Christian Businessman takes this verse to heart.  We do what we do, whatever it is, and give God the glory, as we know we are working for him.  Even if it is something we don’t always want to be doing at the time, we know we are representing God in whatever it is.

Remember this verse as you go about our week. Whether you are busy busy busy or not, God deserves the glory for whatever you do.  Are you ready to represent Him well this week in all that you do?
