Candy Can

Halloween was just last week as you know. Since moving to Nashville we have been holding a joint neighborhood party in our front driveway that has grown over the years to be attended by over 60-70 people.  We give out free candy (of course) but some of our neighbors also sponsor a keg that we allow the adults to get a free cup of beer from. We also have a real popcorn machine giving away popcorn and also all kinds of food to share including wings, dips, chili, salads…  It has turned into a big deal!

For me this is an opportunity to show God’s love to all of my neighbors by not judging them for what costume they may or may not wear or whether they get a free glass of beer or not, but by greeting them when they come over and offering them something from the bounty that everyone has brought with a smile.

I love the opportunity to talk to many of my neighbors that I don’t see that often or that I have never met at all.  It spreads goodwill to our neighborhood and helps folks to see that a fun time doesn’t always have to be an expensive night out on the town – that neighbors actually may be having fun right around the corner from them if they will just stop by.

What do you do around this holiday to show God’s love?  What about at work?  Some folks I know put candy at their desk and let folks have some for free leading up to Halloween.  Some businesses even allow kids to come to work that day and “trick or treat” at everyone’s desk.

Whatever it is that you may or may not do, I am reminding us all that we can always take a simple holiday like Halloween to show what it means to be a Real Christian Businessman out in the world.

It really doesn’t take much!

“Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” Heb 13:2 (NIV)
