Sometimes We Need to Wear It

On our family vacation this summer to Washington DC, we were on a semi crowded bus tour of the monuments.  Someone sat down next to my wife’s Mom and Dad (I love them too much to call them my in-laws!) and as they were talking and exchanging pleasantries the person noticed a small cross necklace that her Mom was wearing. He then asked her directly if she was a Christian.

Now she didn’t know if this meant that the person that was talking to her was vehemently opposed to Christians or if he was a believer himself, but she politely said “yes” and all of a sudden the conversation changed.

He started talking about all that Jesus had done in his life and how it must be so wonderful to meet another believer who can understand His love and mercy and the greatness of it all.

What an opportunity this small cross necklace had that day!  Not only did they get to discuss Jesus and all that he had done for them, they had made instant “friendships in Christ”.  Additionally, the people from all over the world that were on the bus with us also indirectly got to hear their conversation too – allowing Christ’s love to be heard by others.

Do you have anything that you wear to work that would open up a conversation about your beliefs?  A rubber bracelet, cross necklace, a pin on your lapel, etc.?  Do you have a Bible in your office somewhere or on your desk that allows others to know where you stand when it comes to believing in Christ?

I’m not advocating wearing Christian t-shirts to work every single day or putting a super sized poster of David and Goliath on the back wall of your office cube, but a Real Christian Businessman will have something in our office or that we wear that is subtle enough to let people know where we stand when it comes to Jesus.

Not only could it open up a conversation with another believer, it could also prompt a conversation with someone who is not.
