Anxious For What?
I’ve been a little anxious at work lately. New responsibilities, completing an assignment on time, new leadership, a particular report that was due – all things I’m used to seeing/doing but I have been allowing them to consume my thoughts as of late.
Things are constantly changing at work, which I am used to as I’ve been in the workforce a little longer than I would like to admit (Ha!). But I do this to myself often: I work up scenarios in my mind that I think will happen, wonder how it will play out, and then it almost always ends up fine and not happening anywhere near the doomsday scenario I had imagined.
But this time, actually last week, I did pray more about it.
Yes that sounds cliché, but really I did -and it actually helped! I know my personality pretty well, and I do this to myself often (worry about stuff that never happens). The praying about it part doesn’t happen enough for me though.
How did you do last week when it comes to worrying?
No need to beat yourself up if you were anxious about something that ended up not being a big deal at all, remember I just did that for both of us just now.
But a Real Christian Businessman realizes that worrying doesn’t add anything to a scenario. Sure you might say you need to think through how you may respond to a situation but that is different than dwelling on it at all hours of the day and night.
And that’s what I did last week.
Take my mistake and use it to your advantage this coming week. Your mind (and peace of mind) will be much better for it!
“ Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” Luke 12:25-26 (NIV)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, submit your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and minds in the fellowship of Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:6-7 (NIV)
