You Didn’t Hear What I Said
Sometimes we have the best ideas – the ones that will take our company’s objectives to the next level. Help us reach our strategic goals. Take our company to new heights in the industry we are in.
Yet sometimes these great ideas seem to be ignored.
Have you ever been in this situation before? Where you are in a meeting and you suggest an idea that you think is the best idea ever on the topic being discussed? Where many around you even support it and talk about how great your idea is – even vocalizing support for it while in the meeting? Yet it ends up not being the final idea that moves forward?
A Real Christian Businessman knows that our ideas will not always be the ones that are utilized (even though we think they are the best!). Sometimes leadership decides to listen to our ideas but not to follow through on them for whatever reason.
Our reaction to this is what differentiates us from everyone else.
Do you leave the meeting and immediately start to complain that your idea should have been acted upon?
Do you bad mouth leadership and say they don’t have any idea what they are talking about?
Do you end up outwardly not supporting the idea that was chosen?
I have been in this situation many many times over my career. I always felt like if my voice/idea was heard, but a decision was made to go in a different direction, I would support that position and decision 100%. After all, I am a representative of the company and if I didn’t like it that much or my ideas were not even considered maybe I should be looking to work somewhere else.
A Real Christian Businessman knows that we should give our opinion, but others employ us, and we are to show support for the decisions they make to the best of our ability. This also has to shine through with our actions and deeds following a decision.
Remember that others are watching us when our ideas are ultimately not acted upon in our workplace.
“Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.” Heb 13:17 (NIV)
