Decency

I get tired of it happening to me.

Yet many times I am part of it happening to others.

I’m talking about being gracious to others in the workplace.

I am at a company that I would consider “a great place to work. “  The atmosphere is positive, folks are kind to one another, we greet each other even if we don’t know each other in the hallways, and we have even been voted one of the best places to work by Forbes magazine several years in a row.

But all of us at our organization are human, and we all come to work with worries and concerns and attitudes that we sometimes can’t get rid of.  This causes us to sometimes be unkind or rude to one other.  We get upset with others for playing their music too loud at their desk, for talking too loud on the phone, or for “taking over” in a meeting to ensure their point is heard over everyone else’s.

Although this happens to all of us in the places we work, our job as a Real Christian Businessman is to show decency and kindness when this occurs, no matter what the situation.  How we treat our fellow co-worker when they are not acting appropriately goes a long way to showing Christ’s love to everyone.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” John 13:34 (ESV)

This week let’s remember to show some decency to others when they don’t act like they should.

AND…

Let’s remember to ensure our actions align with the verse for this week as well (aka “check your attitude at the workplace door!”).

Showing love, kindness and decency can go a long way in today’s workplace.

And it is needed now more than ever.

Will you try and do it this week?
