The Boss Knows Best

We’ve all had them.

And we may still be with them.

A bad boss.

Bosses that push us down to get themselves to the top.  Bosses who take the completed work that we did and tout it as their own.  Bosses who tell us one thing, then never do anything close to what they said they were going to do.

I’m in a good spot right now as I have a good boss who supports me well. But over my career I can say that it hasn’t always been that great!  Many times I would get left out in the cold, with no back up from my boss to support my initiatives or position on something with a customer.  But there have been times when I have had a great boss, one who has taken the time to teach me, mentored me, help me get back on track when I have done something wrong, or even help guide me when it comes to handling specific situations.

No matter what kind of boss you have right now, how do you support them as a Real Christian Businessman?  Do you walk around talking about all of the bad things that he does?  Do you look for ways to make his job easier, or are you always looking for him to solve your problems for you?

A Real Christian businessman should be supportive of his boss whether the boss is doing a good job or not.  They have priorities and objectives too, and THEY have a boss they have to report to as well, so anything we can do to help them achieve their goals will ultimately help us in the long run (even if we don’t get immediate credit).

We may not always want to help our manager succeed, but ultimately let’s remember who it is we are working for anyway.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” Coll 3:23 (ESV)
