Man Down

Another high profile Christian leader has been brought down by Satan recently due to their actions.  Bill Hybels, pastor of one of the largest and most influential churches in America is embroiled in improper sexual allegations and has stepped down as a result of it.

I am not mentioning this to place judgment on him, that comes from his actions and from God.  I am mentioning this as a reminder for us… a reminder to help us ensure we stay as protected from Satan’s traps as we can and to be aware we are as susceptible as anyone to the temptations of life.

Ironically I just finished reading a book called “How To Ruin Your Life” by Eric Geiger.  Mr Geiger uses the story of David and Bathsheba to outline 3 things we all should be aware of that if we don’t follow them it easily puts us into Satan’s arms:

Isolation (push everyone else and accountability away from you – isolate yourself)

Pride
(thinking that you are better than any temptation or situation you may be in and that you can handle it yourself)

Boredom
(as my Mom used to tell me as I was growing up “Idle time is the devil’s workshop” – we have to keep ourselves active and engaged as boredom can lead us down the wrong path).

Today I am just writing a simple reminder to all of us who aspire to be as a Real Christian Businessman, that Satan is after us. Hard.  He wants not only the high profile leaders to fall, but the everyday folk like you and me to get caught up in a snarl at our job site that brings us down to the bottom.

Don’t put yourself in situations that will allow Satan to bring you down.  Don’t think you are better than everyone else before you and that you can handle whatever temptation has been laid out (Pride).  Don’t isolate yourself from others – get accountability and talk about the situations that make it difficult for you with some trusted friends (isolation).  Keep yourself busy and don’t let idle time bring you down (boredom).

Heed the warning signs that are all around us!
