Joy Matters
So I walked into the meeting with a preconceived notion of how everyone was going to react. I wasn’t happy to be there in the first place. Why were we even having this meeting? And who scheduled it at this time anyway? Surely no one wanted to be here like I didn’t. I’m sure everyone will be ill about it too…
So how long ago did this same scenario happen to you?
Was your attitude and the amount of joy you were showing as bad as mine was?
Joy does matter in the workplace. It is a sure sign of your faith when you walk around exuding joy in all you do, even when situations aren’t the best like this one wasn’t.
Have you ever witnessed at work someone who claims to be a believer yet they have a bad attitude all of the time? You see them walking around with a hostile face, complaining about everything? Even for me, at a place where all of us are believers, I still see folks that walk around with a grimace face all the time. It makes me wonder how non believers would react to the fact that they show no joy.
A Real Christian Businessman knows that everyone is watching us. They are watching us all of the time, whether we realize it or not. We have to rise above whatever is pulling us down and show that even in situations that are less than ideal we can still show joy.
Do you ever get excited about things that happen at work? Do you ever give your co-workers a “hi five” and hoot and holler when a project is complete? When a huge sale is made? Do you ever show genuine joy for them when they tell you about their kids soccer game?
By not showing joy it is destroying the testimony of God’s grace and joy to a lost world.
That is the opposite of what we are called to do.
Remember this week it doesn’t take much to show joy – but it ends up saying a lot.
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones. Prov 17:22 CSB
