A.S.N.
This is one of my favorite acronyms and I didn’t even know it was.
My family knows it is very well.
Many people I work with know it is too.
It stand for the way I react when I am asked a question about something:
It stands for: Always. Say. No.
“Don, can we change how we are doing the sale pricing during this promotion?” NO.
“Don, how about we think about changing the products on this fixture to something else?” NO.
“Dad, I’ve finished all of my homework and have taken out the trash, can I play Xbox?” NO.
My first answer is always NO.
Many times it is NO because I fail to even listen to the entire question. It has somehow become my natural response when someone asks me about something.
A Real Christian Businessman recognizes the way he may answer someone is predicated on how he is wired. I know now that this is usually my first answer to a question so I have been training myself to answer with a reply such as: “possibly” or “let me think about that” or “maybe”.
Hopefully your answer is not as quick and decisive (and negative!) as mine always have been and continue to be.
This is a reminder today to give people a chance, and let them at least hear something else besides “no” as soon as they ask you something.
Join me in trying to eliminate the Acronym A.S.N. from your vocabulary.
“If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.” Prov 18:13
