Word
I heard a pastor once say , “God’s Word will either keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from God’s Word.”
Oh how true this is!
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to Your word.” Psalm 119:9 (NIV)
It can be discouraging when you read something like this and realize you haven’t been reading God’s word. And Satan wants you to be discouraged. That really plays into his hand well.
But I’m not writing this to discourage you – but rather to ENCOURAGE you instead (you have actually already read His word once today!).
Does the Bible seem overwhelming to you? That it is so big and thick that just thinking about reading it brings you down? Well it can seem overwhelming, and it IS a thick book. The best way I have found to look at it is to break it down into smaller parts.
Much smaller parts.
Like just one verse a day.
I suggest starting with the book of Proverbs, written by the wisest man that has ever lived (King Solomon), and trying one of these things:
Leave your Bible open at work.
I do this… and it works… Sometimes! After awhile I end up looking right past it, putting papers on top of it, and literally ignoring it. So I end up having to move it around on my desk. Change its position. Put it in the middle of my desk when I get up to go to a meeting so that when I come back it is right there in front of me.
Leave your Bible open in the car
Do you have a job in which you are driving around all day? You take a drink with you in the car, right? You take a snack with you in the car, right? A small Bible can fit somewhere with you as well, open to the book of Proverbs – can’t it?
A Real Christian Businessman knows that in order to combat all of the things that come across our way everyday, we need the strength of God’s word to help us though.
Every little bit helps.
Even just one verse!
You’ve already read one verse today, now what can do you to continue this practice tomorrow?
