Reading Around the Country (in 6 Months)

Recently my family and I had a chance to meet up with some good friends who are driving around the country in an RV (Mom, Dad, and four children under the age of 14!). They have been doing this for the last 6 months as they left their Michigan home in March (ouch! Still cold) and have been to almost every state in the U.S. except for a handful in the upper Northeast (They are going to make it there soon though!).

Besides being impressed and amazed at all the places and things that they have done, what was most impressive to me was what they did WHILE they were on the trip. Obviously they were homeschooling the children during this time, but I was amazed at the amount of reading that they are doing! They read read and read some more! In addition to reading the books that were in every nook and cranny of their RV, at each place they stopped they got a pamphlet or book that outlines all that is going on at that particular location or region. TV watching is a bare minimum for this family, and they are enjoying every minute of it!

“You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” Charlie Jones

They are meeting people and reading books, all the while becoming better followers of Christ.

As a Real Christian Businessman, I am encouraging you today to use this as an example to read read and read some more! It helps to stimulate you mentally, gain more knowledge, relieve stress, expand your vocabulary, improve your memory, improve your focus and concentration, and offers some peace and tranquility. Our minds also get to be exposed to a whole new world that is around us, even if we don’t get to visit it all like my friends in the RV are doing!

Reading good things will only help us to become more of what God wants us to be. So pick up a book and start reading today!

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8 (ESV)
