Let the Praise Begin

My boss came by my office the other day unannounced. I thought he wanted to discuss the recent report I had prepared that we were going to use in an upcoming management meeting. But I was wrong.

“Great job yesterday with your feedback in that budget meeting. I thought you really helped us get to where we needed to be.” I said thank you for the feedback, he nodded and went on his way.

That comment ended up making my day.

And making my week.

It really made me feel  appreciated.

When was the last time you received a compliment for the work you were doing? When was the last time you gave a compliment to someone else for the work they were doing?

That little act that he did was all I needed (or will need) for some time to keep me motivated. It lifted me up, made me feel valued, and caused me to want to do an even better job on all the things that I am currently doing at my workplace.

My encouragement to you today as a Real Christian Businessman, is not to SEEK OUT this type of praise. But to let YOUR ACTIONS be the part that does this for you.

“Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.” Prov 27:2 (NIV)

God appreciates the humble. He honors the meek. This is not to say that if no one has a clue as to what you are even doing on the job that you will get a good slap on the back. I learned a long time ago to remain humble but at the same time we also need to acknowledge and document our work for others or you can actually end up being seen as someone who doesn’t contribute anything at all to an organization (and guess where that can put you?).

The reminder today is about letting someone else praise you. Don’t be a stage hog. Don’t be a limelight hugger. That is not the intent of our Creator nor is it the way that leads to long term successes.

“Be diligent” and allow your work to shine through so that others can see.

And watch for that recognition come your way when you least expect it.

Let the praise begin!
