I Found it
Have you ever lost something that was important to you? Ever had something that meant a lot to you personally and just couldn’t seem to find it?
Well, I lost my favorite Bible a while ago. I had been searching for this item for so long that I had given up searching. I had it when we moved to Tennessee 2 years ago but I just couldn’t seem to find it anywhere.
Then, as my wife and I were in the bedroom last night looking for something else of hers we couldn’t seem to find, she pulls it out from the backside of the bed!
She found my Bible!
Now you have to understand, I used to WORK for the #1 Bible publisher. We have more Bibles in our house than most people have books… (just kidding – but we do have a ton of Bibles in our house!). You would think that I wouldn’t have been that concerned about losing one particular Bible, when I can reach around any table top in our home for another one that has God’s word right there.
But this one is special to me.
And it means a whole lot now that I have it back.
How does this relate to being a Real Christian Businessman? Well, I personally feel it is important that we ALL find at least one Bible that is “the one”. The Bible that we read most often, the Bible that we take to church with us. The Bible that our kids see us reading out of.
Old school you say? Maybe.
Now I am the first to admit that I am a techie. I love gadgets, computers, apps, iphones, android phones, mac, pc, you name it. I have two Bible apps on my phone and use them frequently throughout the week. We own multiple Apple products as well.
BUT, when my kids get up in the morning and they see dad sitting in the chair “reading his phone”, do you think they know I am reading the Bible App on my phone?
Or reading email?
Or a book on Kindle?
Or playing a game?
They don’t know the difference.
Sure, I can say “dad is reading the Bible on his phone – see?”
But what do you think will make more of an impact on them?
Seeing dad read his phone or seeing dad READ HIS BIBLE.
They see me on my phone more than they see me doing anything else as it is.
So I vote to let them see me with an Old School, Guttenberg pressed, Bible in my hand sometimes.
How about you?
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God’s way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)
