Where You Want to Be
I went this week to my first monthly meeting in downtown Nashville at the regional Entrepreneur Center. It was a coffee / Meet up in which local entrepreneurs get together once a month, hang out for a bit, then hear a Q&A with a local successful entrepreneur. It is designed to help and encourage local entrepreneurs get where they want to be, and provide a networking opportunity for everyone as well.
As confident as I may seem sometimes, this was a little out of my comfort zone to do this by myself! When I was in the parking lot before entering I had to say a quick prayer so that I would have the strength to walk into this situation (Me, an entrepreneur?!). But being outside of our comfort zone is the only way for we will ever grow as a person – and it helped me to do just that.
He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed. Prov 13:20 (NKJV)
If you want to be in a different place than you are now, you have to be around, hang around, and put yourself around the place you WANT to be. You can start your own successful business if you hang around others who are already doing a successful business. You will grow as a believer in Christ if you are in church every week and hanging out and talking with others that are doing this as well. You will raise your income level if you are hanging out with people that are at a higher income level than you.
You have to be where you want to be in order to get where you want to get.
A Real Christian Businessman knows that sometimes you will have to do things that are outside your comfort zone. Things that stretch your mind (like attending an entrepreneur meeting when you don’t even have a business yet); things that put you ahead of where you are now. I want to continue to encourage you to act ahead of where you are now – it is the best way to get you to the place you want to be.
‘The fastest way to change yourself is to hang out with people that are already the way you want to be.” (the reverse of this is true too – think about it…)
“The fastest way to change is to change the people that you hang out with.”
“Hang out with people who are already achieving success in areas that you want to achieve success. You will learn a lot from them.”
What can you do this week to be around others that are ahead of you?
