Recharge

It is Spring Break time for me and my family this week. We have decided to spend a few days in a slightly warmer climate (sunny Florida!) for some much needed R&R.

For a real Christian businessman, taking a break from work is as critical as work itself. Unplugging from the daily emails, phone calls, meetings, and deadlines, allows us to clear our mind. Better yet, it allows us to be an even better person. The teachings of Jesus even discuss taking a break:

The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves. (Mark 6:30-32) ESV

The point here is to take some time off! Many people I know think they can go forever and ever without ever recharging their batteries. Just like the plants that grow dormant every year and rejuvenate with more beauty than before in the spring, everything needs a recharge.

What we don’t realize is that by not taking a break, our brains lose some of their creativity. Our ideas get dull. It is a proven fact that if you take a break from something, when you come back to it your perspective is renewed and many times problems that seemed unsolvable now have a solution.

Take a break, plan some time off; leave it all behind for awhile. I promise it will still be there when you get back, and you will be a much more productive person too!

What is holding you back from doing this on a regular basis?
