You Deserve a Vacation

Recently I read a blog post by Michael Dalton Johnson from Zig Ziglar’s website.  This topic again struck a cord with me so I wanted to share some of the post here along with my thoughts.

“You deserve a vacation….but not just any vacation. You need one that will restore your spirit, enthusiasm and energy.

Spend your time far away from cell phones, computers, newspapers, radio and television. These are electronic leashes which bind you to a complicated and stressful world. Simply leave them all at home. It’s easier to do than you may think.

Get close to nature. Take walks. Enjoy sunsets. Sleep in. Read a good book. Nap. Laugh. Have a long soak. Go for a drive in the countryside with no destination in mind. Have a slice of pie. Smile. Breathe. Unwind….  …People who have disconnected for a week or two describe the experience as heaven.”

I know that I comment frequently on the importance of disconnecting from work as well as disconnecting from “things”.  Reading this served as a great reminder to me about doing it the right way.

You see, our minds need a break as well.  We are constantly being bombarded by images, words, projects, needs, our family, car problems, cell phones, emails – you name, we hear about it.

A Real Christian BusinessMan understands what it means to take a vacation.  How it helps your mind become even sharper.  How it actually makes you more productive at work and at home. How it honors God by using our time and bodies wisely. God led the way on this by giving us His example:

“…God rested from all his work.” Heb 4:4

I know that it is not easy to do a vacation like this.  It will take some forethought and planning.  But I want to encourage you to try it. The benefits truly outweigh the preconceived notions you may have about doing a vacation this way –  just ask God how it went for him!
