On the Road Again…

My current job takes me out on the road a good bit over the course of a year (about 50% of the time!).  Being away from my wife and family is something that I do not look forward to, but in my current occupation that’s just the way it is.

But traveling can be very hard for a man to stay REAL…

Especially to be a Real Christian BusinessMan…

In this world as we know it today…

Because there are SOO many distractions.

There are so many temptations.

The airport is always the worst for me when I travel.  People and more people and more people… everywhere…  And specifically women… beautiful women… who are in their sharp business attire, trying to make an impression on other their customers, other people, their bosses… or even worse, those women that are not in tune with what God’s intention was for their bodies and are barely wearing any clothes at all…

I Cor 6:20 “you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. “

I try to remember what I have always learned, and that is that everything that we put into our mind determines our words and our actions.  It is true that if garbage goes in, garbage will come out.  If we fill our minds with all of these images from these women, how do you think that makes our bodies and minds feel? What type of output do you think happens?

It is difficult to resist sexual temptation.  Lord only knows I struggle with it, as most men do (whether they are willing to admit it or not). I want to give you a reminder of what you CAN do while you are traveling and also to offer you hope.

Hope that if you train your mind what NOT to look at, the temptations that Satan puts in front of us will be much more manageable.  Hope that the Holy Spirit will give you and me the opportunity to be a REAL Christian BusinessMan, even while you are traveling.

Here are some basic helps that I use:

1 – Read Every Man’s Battle by Steve Arteburn

2- Have your wife read it too. She needs to understand the struggle you are constantly going through and it will help to have your best friend in the trenches with you.

3 – “Ponder your feet”. This is a saying that Steve talks about in his book, but basically it means to look away anytime an image comes across your eyes.  The more you practice it the more it happens automatically.

4 – Get an accountability partner.  Your wife is a great friend in all of this and will try to understand what you are going through and NEEDS to be in it with you,  but it helps exponentially if have another guy that is in this with you that you can call on at any time to pray, counsel, and encourage you.  My good friend Jody helps me with this.

5 – Disable the questionable channels when you check in to the hotel. I don’t even turn the TV on when I travel, I am waaay too tempted with changing the channels so I just eliminate it all together.

I know, easier said than done.  But you can DO IT!  Once you practice – bouncing your eyes and keeping your mind pure –  you will be amazed at how clearer you not only see the world, but also your wife!

James 1:12 “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised him. “

Do you have anything that you do that helps you keep your mind and eyes on Christ while you travel?
