I Can See Clearly Now

Back in May, I went to the eye doctor for my annual check up.  I have not been seeing clearly as of late so I was looking forward to the doctor updating my eyeglasses prescription so that things would be better.  Well, instead of updating my prescription he told me new glasses wouldn’t help – I had cataracts in both eyes and needed to have surgery in order to see clearly again!

Well, I didn’t believe what he said at first.  I went straight into denial!  I figured it would all get better on its own (which is not even a possibility by the way – cataracts only gets worse).  Besides, at my age (mid 40s) who gets cataracts?!? That only happens to people who are 75 years and older, right?!

Little did I realize how bad my eyesight really was. Over the next several months, my vision slowly got even worse (just like he said it would!).  Night driving turned out to be increasingly difficult, and I struggled to read my computer screen even when I had everything magnified by 150%.

Finally, this month, I decided to get my cataracts removed and as of yesterday I am not only cataract free but after wearing glasses most of my life I no longer wear ANY (except for reading)!

How does my eye surgery relate to being a Real Christian Businessman? When I realized I needed to have eye surgery and actually had it scheduled, I didn’t go around my workplace bemoaning my upcoming procedure.  Sure, I told a few people at work who I knew cared about my well being, but I didn’t announce it at every meeting and in every interaction I had that I was going to have to be operated on to get my eyes fixed.

Although my eye surgery was a big deal, the bigger deal was me showing my coworkers that even though I was scared inside of what could potentially go wrong with having this surgery, my faith in what God had planned for the outcome of my surgery was what I was focused on.

I’m on the other side of it all now and as I go back to work without my ‘glasses’ on and people ask me if I’m wearing contacts now, I will have another opportunity to let them know that due to my faith in God and the ‘miracle of modern science’ I now can see without any glasses at all.
