Wait a Minute

I read an article recently by Dr Travis Bradberry that outlined how research shows most people complain once a minute during a typical conversation. Once a minute!  This really made me sad when I read it… Because I think as positive as I try to stay all the time I fall into this category more times than I like.

Complaining is tempting because it feels good, but like many other things that are enjoyable complaining isn’t good for you.

“Your brain loves efficiency and doesn’t like to work any harder than it has to” Dr Bradberry said. “When you repeat a behavior, such as complaining, your neurons branch out to each other to ease the flow of information. This makes it much easier to repeat that behavior in the future—so easy, in fact, that you might not even realize you’re doing it.”

As a Real Christian Businessman, we need to realize what is happening when we complain and make efforts to change our behavior. As we just read, it becomes easier and easier to do that which we repeat the behavior of, and the more we complain, the easier it is becoming.

Others are watching us even closer than we may think, particularly because of our beliefs.  It’s not that hard to look at the positive side of things, or even to take our moms old advice of “If you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all.”

Let’s all start the New Year out by making an effort to change our behavior to that of one of less complaining.

Our brain will notice.

And so will everyone else!

“Do everything without complaining or arguing.” Phil 2:14 NLT
