The Perfect World

“Pursuing the perfect world for everyone is a waste of time and an excuse for not doing the hard work of making the world better for many.” -Bruce Bueno de Mesquita and Alastair Smith

I read this in a recent blog post from Taylor Person and it hit me like a brick.

I am guilty of this more than I want to admit!

In my job, it requires that I interact with many different departments within our organization.  In this capacity, I am required to get us all to achieve a common goal while working together between departments (think internal project manager).  While I am doing this, I get to learn about many different things that my co-workers have to do in their daily job that are not “perfect” and that hinder us all from achieving success for the project that is in front of us.

Part of my job is also to try and help all of these departments and imperfect things work well together, all the while facing these problems ahead of us us.that are .

Instinctively perhaps, I try to fix as many of these “not perfect” things as I can.

And I stay doing this much much longer than I should!

What I should be focusing on is getting as many things going right as I can, then moving the ball  forward – working hard at making what we DO have work well together.

But I don’t.

I keep trying to fix everything.

As a Real Christian Businessman, we all need to stop trying to pursue the perfect world, and realize it is a broken place.  We will never find the perfection that we all are seeking.  In our vocations, we all need to focus instead on working hard with what we have, as this will produce the most productivity and optimum results.

I have seen a limit to all perfection, but your commandment is exceedingly broad. Only God has shown us what is perfection!  “  Psalms 119:96 ESV

Remember this week to leave the perfection part up to God, and work with what we have right here, right now.

What type of results do you think we will see?
