Opposite Of Gloom

We live in a world of gloom and doom.  Everywhere we go, there is something negative that we hear about that affects our lives.  The news media actually garners profits from bad news and bad things happening to other people (how many times have you seen them lead with a story about something good that happened?)

But what is the opposite of gloom?

Kindness.

Kindness can affect others in ways we cannot measure.

It means a lot when it happens to me.

It means even more when we show it to others.

A Real Christian Businessman should be one that leads with kindness in our lives. No matter what vocation or stage of life you are in.

When was the last time you held the door for someone at work (male OR female) and let them go in first?

How about letting that person merge in front of you on your commute to work in the morning?

When was the last time you wrote someone a personal note?  People just don’t do this much at all anymore in the advent of “likes” and “140 character” thank yous.  This type of kindness would really brighten someone’s day if you did it, and it only takes a few minutes to do.

Have you done much smiling lately? I used to do this particularly when I traveled a lot because almost NOBODY is doing it. You see those people in the airports are always scurrying, in a big rush, “huff and puff”.  I purposely smiled while I walked, just to counter all of the glum looks I saw everywhere.

What are some other things that you can think of that we can do to be kind to others this week?

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” Eph 4:32 (NIV)
