The Cut Through

I attended a Leadership conference last Friday called Leadercast and came away with some very good insights.  One that sticks in my mind right now is from Laura Bush, the former first lady, that I remember from the interview at the event.

She talked about how her husband, George W. Bush, always spoke kindly and not disparaging to other people, no matter how they acted or seemed.  When he met folks from other countries, his staff, his opponents, Mrs. Bush said her husband always managed to act this way, even when others were not.

In other words, he never spoke demeaning, sarcastic, or cynical to others, he always treated them with respect.

I have written on this topic before, but I am reminded frequently about it many times.

You see, sometimes, I can be sarcastic.

Cynical.

Even demeaning.

I realize these behaviors are against the will of God, against what he hopes for us to be, against His blueprint as outlined in the Bible.

But I also know I am forgiven by Him, as well as the others that I treat this way after I ask for their forgiveness and they grant it.

I have been working hard as a Real Christian Businessman to have Christ dwell in my heart to counteract my natural sin tendencies.

“so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith…”  Ephesians 3:17a

I know that it is easy to be cynical, especially at work, when other around you start to say things that they shouldn’t, put others down, or talk badly about the organization that you work for.

It is easy to be demeaning when you see a news report about someone else who has really messed up their lives and you think to yourself how bad a person they are, not remembering that Christ loves them just as much as He loves you.

As we go through the day today, let’s remember to treat people with respect; don’t use the tongue-knife to cut right through them.  Not only will we be acting like a Real Christian Businessman is expected, we will be giving an example that others will notice, whether we are aware of it or not.

Can you do that today?
