Wonderful
I just finished watching my favorite movie of all time – It’s a Wonderful Life, starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. This year it was even more special, because my wife and I introduced this movie to my 7 and 9 year old and we watched it together as a family for the first time all the way through. How fun it was explaining many of the parts in the movie and why they were happening!
(btw, I will assume that every Real Christian Businessman out there has seen this movie as it is a classic in more ways than one. )
As my wife pointed out to me while we both sat there crying at the end (like we both always do), I get something new out of this movie every year.
And this year, what is sticking out to me the most, is the saying at the very end of the movie that Clarence the angel wrote in the book he left for George.
“Remember no man is a failure who has friends.”
No matter how hard we try to be a better spouse, no matter how hard we try to be great parents, no matter how hard we try to be a good co-worker, sometimes we end up thinking that we just aren’t good enough, and that we have failed.
I could write over 500 blog posts about how God feels about that last statement I wrote – because He has told us repeatedly in the Bible (and through His son Jesus) that he loves us no matter WHAT.
But sometimes.
Every now and then.
It happens.
And we think that we are a failure.
Even after knowing all of what God has said.
George Bailey reminded me of this again tonight. As I watched this movie for the 50th or so time, I was reminded once again that I should hold my head high. Because not only am I the son of the King of Kings, but I have many of you – who are reading this right now – that I can personally call “friend”.
And because of that.
I realized again tonight.
That I am NOT a failure.
Thanks to you.
So THANK YOU to every last one of you – for your friendship and what you mean to me.
