Others Are Depending On You

I was reminded again this week how much we depend on others for what we do.  I have a report that is due every month that collates information from people across my department. It is a fairly big project that my leadership reviews regularly and it is an integral  part in setting the direction our company  goes forward in.

Consistently, the same two people either disregard the due date of the information or they turn it in late.

Which is rude….   inconsiderate…   and un-professional.

I bring this up because as a Real Christian Businessman, we have an obligation to others that goes above this.  We have a responsibility and should realize that people are always depending on us. The things we do on our job affects others and how they do their job, whether we want to think about it or not.

Look at it via this simple example:  I work for a specialty retailer, and if a buyer submits a sale price to be active during a certain time period, but the data department enters the wrong dates, or the wrong duration, or doesn’t enter it at all, what happens?  The store associate will have to override the title upon purchase (if our customer even notices that the price isn’t what they expect at check-out); the consumer doesn’t get what they want at the price they want; the experience is bad once they notice the wrong price was given; we as a retailer can’t track the sale on that item correctly since it was done as an override (or missed!); so we end up looking back at the whole situation with incomplete information  – ALL BECAUSE SOMEONE DIDN’T DO WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO AT THE BEGINNING!

A Real Christian Businessman realizes consistently that everything he does affects others.  Meeting deadlines is a reflection not only on you and I but our work ethic, how we are viewed by others within our company, and our entire organizational success.

Others are depending on us.  Do your part and contribute as a Real Christian Businessman would, putting others needs above your own, and watch how you will stand out and glorify God in all that you do.

“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” (Rom 12:10)
