Do you hear what I hear

I don’t listen to the radio that much anymore, particularly when I am on my commute to work. When I listen to music I end up hearing the same songs, and talk /sports radio is a lot of political ranting and negative talk (plus I can get the scores and highlights in minutes off the internet). Pandora is sometimes an option or even songs from my iPod, but I usually reserve that for when I am at home.

One thing I do spend a lot of time doing though is listening to podcasts. It has been a great way for me to learn new concepts, brush up on my leadership skills, hear a great sermon, and many other great things. This post is not written to encourage you to do this (see filling your mind post), but you can learn a lot by utilizing your drive time by listening to something constructive.

What am I doing with all this stuff I am listening to though? These podcasts are from some wise people, and I always gain insight from them when I listen.

But many times, I will listen to a podcast, and then do nothing about it.

Zero.

Zip.

I end up with a lot of “knowledge”, but not a lot of action. I end up knowing a lot of “stuff”, but improvements in my life remain stagnant. Podcast on a better marriage? Oh yea, I’ve listened to those. Podcast on being a good Dad? Sure, I have documented hours of listening to those too. How to be a better manager? Employee? Friend? I’ve heard my share of all of them.

It used to be I would listen to them and think I was getting so much better; that I was becoming a better person from it all. But really all I was doing was gaining some knowledge. Things really starting happening for me when I started to take action on the things I had been hearing (and reading).

You see, the difference between knowledge and wisdom is action. A Real Christian Businessman knows this to be the game changer. If you’re reading a lot of material and content, if you are listening to podcasts continuously (sometimes the same one more than once even), and nothing is changing in your life it is because you’re not taking action! I am here to encourage you to get up off the couch and do what you hear. Make a change. Just do something!

We are here in this world, not to remain stagnant in our lives but to grow not only in knowledge but in Christ. Yes feeding your mind with the right things is much better than putting junk into it but Knowledge does little to change our lives if there is no action.

“You know these things now do them – that is the path of blessing” John 13:17

How much more knowledge do you need before you will make a change in your life for the better?
