The REAL boss

An interesting thing happened at work this week.

My co-workers showed vulnerability.

We were in a department meeting when it happened – someone got REAL.

They expressed how they were really feeling about the direction our company seemed to be going, and felt that we were no longer aligned with a core value of our organization.

And it was making them sad.

And Weary.

Surprisingly, others spoke up with vulnerability as well and expressed some of these same concerns.

It was one of the best meetings I have attended in a long time.

That person at work this week reminded all of us who attended that meeting that we need to keep Jesus at the center of what we do (I happen to work for a Christian organization so saying things like this is not out of the ordinary). Reflecting on it now, it was such a great reminder. Whether you work in a secular business, non-profit, Christian organization, non-Christian organization, etc. sometimes we forget who we ultimately are working for.
“Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men” Colossians 3:23 (HCSB)
There are some practical things we can do at work to help us remember. We can pray; we can read our Bible; we can ponder God’s word in our minds; we can put a note on our computer that reminds us who we all are really working for.

A Real Christian Businessman needs reminders like this. Reminders and encouragement that whatever you are doing, it is not insignificant. It is glorifying the One who made us in the first place. He likes to see us do good work! He is proud of what we do – and you should be too. And if you aren’t, and it’s hard, and people are always coming down on you, and the direction of your organization seems to be going against the grain, be reminded today of who the Real boss is.
